About me

First of all, thank you for taking the time to stop by and check out Sara Makes Stuff. My name is Sara and I started this blog as way to show that a little wood, some paint and a bit of elbow grease can go a long way when it comes to creating the home of your dreams. In addition to being a borderline DIY addict, I'm also a lover of food (which includes cooking for "C" and I almost daily). When I'm not re-purposing pallets or making a mess in the kitchen. I can usually be found traveling with "C" and experiencing all of the fabulous sights that money could never buy!

When I am not working on SMS, I am busy working away in my shed on my Succulent arrangement business called Desert Rose Succulents. Feel free to visit DesertRoseLA.com to learn more about it or place an order!

Sponsors and "As Seen On"

I could not have created this site and it's content without the help of some amazing sponsors and fabulous outlets which showcase my work. Please find out more about them by clicking the links below!

The Cast of "Sara Makes Stuff"

You will notice I may talk a lot about my family and friends, and so you're not lost in a sea of random names, I will outline the "cast of characters" that may make an appearance on the blog!

Colin: My amazingly supportive and incredibly talented boyfriend, photographer, co-creator, handyman, tool-technique instructor and best friend. Now we can proudly say we're home owners and I couldn't think of a better person to take this incredible journey with that we call "life".

Hank: Our wonderfully fantsatic rescue dog extraordinarre! Hank is an English Bulldog / Pit mix who is full of energy, love and the occasional toot (well, more than occassional). He loves to hang out while Colin and I work on the house and our various other projects. He doesn't make the best assistant because he rather sleep than participate in our DIY activities.

David : My childhood best friend for the past 30-years. He's a design genius, way better at life than I am and way more travelled. Basically David is perfect and I strive to imitate him.

Wade: Colin's Dad and our go-to construction, gardening and general home knowledge guy. Wade is awesome and has been an invaluable asset to us from start to finish on our house.

Questions & Answers

Q: What type of camera do you use?

A: Colin uses a Canon 50D with a variety of lenses because he's fancy and a far better photographer than I am. I use a Sony mirror-less SLR which I've lost the lens cap to. I simply cannot have nice things.

Q: You have shown us a few of your tattoos on this blog, do you have anymore?

A: Why yes I do! I have 5 tattoos in fact - and 4 of them are from the same guy! Now that's loyalty. They include:

- A small skull on my left wrist (done by Louie Perez at Shamrock Social Club)- The word "Now" on my right wrist (also done by Louie)

- The Roman Numeral XLIV(44) on my left ribs (also done by Louie)

- The last line of "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross (...yep, also Louie)

- "Memento Mori" in script on the left side of my back (not done by Louie unfortunately)

Q: Let's talk advertising. What types of options do I have for advertising on Sara Makes Stuff?
A: You can see my media kit and statistics on my "Advertise" page.
